Digilocker - National Academic Depository (NAD) is born out of an initiative to provide an online store house of all academic awards. Digilocker - NAD is a 24X7 online store house of all academic awards viz. marks sheets, diploma certificates, degree certificates, transcripts, etc. duly digitized and lodged by Academic Institutions (AIs) and Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). Digilocker-NAD not only ensures easy access to and retrieval of academic records but also validates and guarantees its authenticity and safe storage.
What is digilocker?
Digilocker is flagship initiative of Ministry of Electronics & I.T. (MeitY) under Digital India program.Digilocker aims at digital empowerment of citizens by providing access to authentic digital documents to all citizens’ digital document wallet.
NAD Governance structure: Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is the parent ministry of NAD; MHRD has appointed UGC as nodal agency for implementation of NAD scheme through Digilocker.
NAD Ecosystem: The NAD ecosystem comprises of the Academic Institutions (AI’s), students, verifying partners, NAD repository, and Digilocker application. The verifying partners (employers, banks, VISA consulates, other academic institutions, etc.) can easily verify academic records of the students through the system by obtaining the consent of the student.
Academic Institutions (AI’S): The academic institutions will issue digital records to students through NAD, available on Digilocker application.
Beneficiaries: Students are the beneficiaries of this scheme who can view, access and share their digital academic awards with other academic institutions or potential employers.
Verifiers: A student may share his/her academic certificates with potential employers while seeking a job or with a bank as a proof of Date of Birth or with academic institutions for further studies.
Features of Digilocker - NAD:

Allow lodging of academic records in a digital format, maintaining the integrity of access to the database and of the awards lodged in the database.
Allow students to retrieve their lodged academic awards at any time
Maintain the authenticity, integrity and confidentiality of the database
Roles and responsibilities of students:
Students shall:
Register on NAD-digilocker by providing aadhar details
Avails digilocker ID in case of non-availability of aadhar
Submits aadhar/Digilocker ID of AI for verification and sending into award data
Views and access all awards online at any time in single account
Request printed copy of the certificate
Approve/Reject request of any verifiers for access to his/her certificate
Send copy of certificate to any verifiers
With the implementation of UUCMS, all the result data of the students will directly be uploaded to the Digilocker platform and can be accessed by students in digital format. No physical marks cards or certificates will be issued by the academic institutions in future days. Hence, the participants have to guide their students to create their DigiLocker Registration and access all their academic documents.The University of Mysore has uploaded about 14 Lakh, 60 thousand records till date and thousands of students have already started fetching these records online using DigiLocker application on their mobile and other gadgets.
