MBA IN AGRI –BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

MBA (Agri-Business) is well-designed course to equip the students to face new challenges in development and understanding of the needs of the emerging markets. It has become necessary to impart quality education to talented students to manage the business in the new economic environment. To meet the challenges and to assist the industry and to train the Agri -Business Managers. This inter- disciplinary course has been designed. The Institute takes pride in pioneering Agri-Business activities, which has been acclaimed by the National and International Organization. This course has been listed as a professional course in the United Nations Directory, the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development; Government of India has also the uniqueness of    this programme.

Objectives
The 2 year (4 Semester) MBA in Agri-Business has been evolved by the combining various disciplines and emphasis in on imparting the analytic skills making them understand and appreciate the various dimension of Agri-Business Management both at the national and International level.

Curriculum
The Agri-Business Management assumes greater signified in the context of the new economic regime & globalization of the Indian Agriculture & food industry. The Programme is structured so that core courses are taught and the field experience is provided enabling the students to understand and appreciate the various problems involved in Food and Agribusiness management. The students are required to follow their own interest and specialization by undertaking an in-depth study and writing a dissertation, which is followed by a viva-voce. Each student works under an academic supervisor. The programme also uses other training methods like seminars, tests, field visits, projects, guest lectures etc.

Awards Four Gold Medal is instituted to the first rank student. They are:

  • The Market Regulations Centenary Gold Medal of Mysore Grain Merchants Association
  • The Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board Gold Medal
  • Smt. B.H. Bhrmarambha and H.S. Gopal Rao Gold Medal
  • Late Sri. Sait Haidraj Endowment Gold Medal


Criteria for Admission:
 The graduates (B.A., B.Com. BBA) in Commerce/Business Management/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/Animal Husbandry/ Agricultural marketing/ Agricultural economics  /Dairy Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/ Fisheries / Economics/ Food & Nutrition or equivalent degree from any Indian /Foreign Universities are eligible for admission to MBA  (Agri- Business).

MA IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

MA in Development Studies is a restructured course offered from 2001-2002. Earlier Master Degree in Development Planning was offered combining two diplomas in Development Planning and Agricultural Planning. MADS is a self-financing course in the University, exposes students to the current developments at the National and Global levels. Fieldwork and Project work forms the essential components and the students have got choice to specialize in urban or rural issues.

Objective
The 2 year (4 Semester) MA in Development Studies has been evolved by the combining various disciplines and emphasis in on imparting the analytic skills making them understand and appreciate the various dimension of current Development Studies both at the national and International level. This assumes greater significance especially in the wake of challenges the field of sustainable development presents today!

The students are required to follow their own interest and specialization by undertaking an in-depth study and writing a Project. Each student works under an academic supervisor. The programme also uses other training methods like seminars, tests, field visits, projects, guest lectures etc., 

Awards
One Gold Medal is instituted, to the first rank student in the name of Prof. V.K. Nataraj Felicitation Committee Gold Medal

Criteria for Admission
The course is opened to any graduates or equivalent degree from any Indian /Foreign Universities are eligible.

 Note: All the students who join the courses on IDS are eligible to get admission in the Hostel

 

MA IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT

The course is design to cater the needs of rural areas. The students are exposed to the rural problems. Project work is designed to make the students to visit the field to understand the ground reality of the rural areas. 

Criteria for admission

The course is opened to any graduates or equivalent degree from any Indian /Foreign Universities are eligible.

 

Ph. D. PROGRAMME

About 60 Ph.D’s have been awarded in Urban and Regional Planning, Development Studies and Agricultural Marketing. One D.Litt has been awarded in Urban and Regional Planning. There are separate Boards of Studies and Boards of Examinations for the three programs.

  • Ph.D. in Development Studies

Eligibility: Admission is open to the above disciplines and eligibility criterion as per University of Mysore Ph.D. Rules and Regulations.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
A number of research findings of the Institute has facilitated the State Government in evolving new polices and formulation of guidelines .The Institute was specially commissioned by the State Government of Karnataka to develop market norms, Benchmark studies to implement the Bidar Rural Integrated Development and Full Employment, Impact of Social Forestry for the state forest department. Four students of the Institute have won Best Thesis Award from the Institute of Town Planners, India, New Delhi.

It is gratifying to note that most of the faculty members of the Institute have had their higher training in U.K., Israel and Hong Kong.

 

SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS AND SHORT TERM COURSES:

The Institute has organized nearly 25 Seminars and Workshops and short term training progress in District Planning. Notable among them are, First Asian Conference on Regional Planning and Development 1974; National Town and Country Planning Seminar 1984 and 1997, International Seminar on Agricultural Marketing in 1983, 1985 & 1987 and short-term training programs for Govt. Officials on Districts Planning (1974), Western Ghats Development (1983), Drought Prone Area Program (1972, 1974, 1976), Research Methodology in 1984, National Conference on Emerging Challenges in Agricultural Commodity Marketing with Globalization in 1999, International Conference on Rural Markets in 2004 and State Level Training Programme on Contract Farming in 2006.

The Institute involves many scholars and Government officials under guest Faculty and our Faculty members too participate as Guest Faculty at the Administrative Training Institute, State Institute of Urban Development, State Agricultural marketing Training College and Central Sericulture Training Institute.
