The Educational Multimedia Research Centre was established in 1995 as Audio Visual Research Centre at the University of Mysore. The name of AVRC has been changed to EMRC in the month of August 2004. EMRC is the only institution of its kind to be established by the University Grants Commission in the entire State of Karnataka jurisdiction.

EMRC produces educational video programs for 24 Hour Higher Educational Channel Gyandarshan (GD-Vyas) and Doordarshan’s National Network DD-1. Across the nation there are 21 such EMRC'S.
