About the Department

The Department of History is one of the leading social science departments.  The Department at present has seven faculty members with higher academic qualifications. The Department of History started in the year 2014 to cater to the academic needs of rural students in and around Hassan districts.  The department focusses on different aspects of ancient, medieval and modern Indian history. Historiography, Theory and Practice of Historical Writing, History of Science, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Numismatics and Global History are foremost among the thrust areas of study. The curriculum intends to provide comprehensive as well as in depth knowledge in history so as to enable them to clear competitive examinations like UGC NET and Civil Service Examinations and take up administrative, teaching and research careers with confidence in future. 

Objectives of the Department:

• To highlight the intellectual tradition and cultural heritage of India
• To provide facilities for study and research in social, economic and cultural history of India
• To explore the possibilities of new avenues in the study of history as a discipline.
• To undertake the study of historiography and the philosophy of history
• To provide knowledge of the theory and practice of historical writing
