Third Sector In Karnataka: A Status Report

This status report is an attempt to map the third sector organisations in the Karnataka State . The report begins by providing a geographical background of the state of Karnataka and then moves on to analyse the historical perspectives on third sector in Karnataka. Later part of the report concentrates on the semantics of third sector and co-operatives and addresses questions like whether co-operatives can be considered as part of the third sector or not.

 While analyzing the status of third sector in Karnataka the report goes about in two phases. The first phase analysis is done taking the data of NGOs registered under various ministries of the Union of India. The second phase of the analysis deals with the Charities Aid Foundation’s (CAF) assessment of the status of third sector in Karnataka.
